Ben Adamson
Chairman of the Green Cooling Council Working Group
on Hydrocarbons
Ben Adamson has worked in system design, installation
and commissioning on a wide variety of refrigeration and gas
processing projects, including the chemical, oil, mining, fertilizer,
food, wine and brewing industries. His company has been engaged
in refrigeration projects for clients in these industries in Australia,
Asia, Europe and North America. He also provides consulting services
to companies in these industries.
Ben holds the position of Principal Engineer of
the Stolway Holdings Pty Ltd subsidiary Refrigeration Engineering
Pty Ltd. Ben is also Director of Redynamics Pty Ltd, a design and
consulting service working mainly in industrial process cooling
for the oil, gas, petrochemical and chemical industries.
Having worked
extensively with hydrocarbons in the industrial sector, he is
comfortable with the necessary precautions for their use. He sees
great potential for expanding their use in limited charge systems
such as domestic and small commercial refrigeration, domestic air-conditioning
and motor vehicle air-conditioning.
But Ben also sees
overcoming the fear factor many have about using hydrocarbons
is one of the most significant challenges confronting the industry.
The flammable properties of hydrocarbons are well understood and
demand that they must be used in a responsible way, but engineering
solutions to the risks exist and need to be more widely understood.
Ben hopes to encourage Australian manufacturers to make well engineered
hydrocarbon systems more widely available.
In his spare time
Ben studies for a Bachelor of Arts in Mandarin and enjoys sailing
his boat to Lord Howe Island.
His publications include a textbook
("Refrigeration
for Winemakers")
and papers for Australian and international journals and conferences.
