Stefan Jensen
Chairman of the NH3 group

Trained as mechanical engineer in Denmark, Stefan gained early experience in industrial refrigeration with Danfoss and Sabroe before coming to Queensland. Over the past 25 years as a technical and general manager in several firms, and for the last 10 years with Scantec Engineering, Stefan is a respected expert in refrigeration systems design and product specification and development, and is the author of many technical and conference papers.

Stefan’s interest in natural refrigeration stems from his long experience with ammonia and carbon dioxide and his long held conviction that the refrigeration industry needs to take seriously the responsibility to avoid environmentally damaging systems. Stefan has long advocated for greater application of natural refrigerants, and has made an important contribution to the development of new applications and system design in many major projects across Australia.

Stefan believes the major challenge facing the industry is resistance to change at all levels from legislators down to the plant room floor. Denmark decided to make the change from HFCs to naturals in 1996, and since then people have realised that natural options are not so bad and have become a real money spinner. Very simple technical solutions exist to common problems that can be easily adopted by those more open to change.

Stefan drives the lowest mg/km CO2 emission vehicle on the market, a VW Golf diesel, and also enjoys riding a BMW touring bike and building retaining walls on his small rural property.
