Labelling and site/system certification program
The Green Cooling Council aims to institute a labeling system
to run alongside the 5-star energy labeling system to provide the
vendor/operator with visible recognition of the natural, non-global
warming refrigerant in use within the unit/system. The program
aims to provide labeling for factory-built units used in domestic,
commercial and even industrial applications, and for site installed
systems, such as at supermarkets or commercial buildings.
The Australian Environmental Labeling Association (AELA) currently
offers such a service to the industry and the Green Cooling Council will coordinate
these activities with the AELA.
The Green Cooling Council will appoint a coordinator to manage this program. In
particular his./her tasks will include:
- Coordinate with AELA to negotiate joint scheme
- Define and document labeling scheme for white-goods and commercial
cabinets
- Domestic refrigerators and freezers
- Water dispensers
- Window mounted A/C units and small split systems
- Commercial stand-alone display cases (e.g. Coke vending machines
and Streets freezer cabinets)
- Define and document labeling scheme for commercial and industrial
units;
- Water-cooled and air-cooled fluid chillers
- Publicize and market labeling schemes, in coordination with
executive officer.
Once the system is fully operational, the Green Cooling Council will engage the
services of a contract inspector to verify compliance with the requirements
of the scheme before labels or certificates are issued.
