The Green Cooling Council (Green Cooling Council) was established in the first half of 2003 by a founding group of refrigeration and air-conditioning professionals. In October 2006 the Australian Government agreed to support the Green Cooling Council with a grant of up to AU$2 million over four years under the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Programme (GGAP).

Its primary aim is to achieve the wider use of natural refrigerants, by providing information and facilitating training and education on the best practice use of these refrigerants.

Recent European experience has shown that environmentally benign alternatives to fluorocarbon gases can be implemented efficiently, safely and cost effectively for most applications. Here in Australia there is great opportunity to benefit from this experience, and to develop new applications for natural refrigerants.

Applying natural refrigerants means reducing environmental degradation, achieving greater sustainability, supporting Australian manufacturing, and developing export opportunities for Australian natural refrigerant technologies and services.

Natural refrigerant systems are guaranteed long-term solutions, and will never be phased out. Natural refrigerants make sense ethically as well as economically. They are the way of the future.
